The World's Most Credible “Natural” Wellness Brand,
and the Mile It Hasn't Walked
An honest proposal — completing SHA's integrative method with the world's first audited 7-star toxin-free standard.
Prepared by Johansson Toxin Free Living — for Alfredo & Alejandro Bataller and the leadership of SHA Wellness Group.
SHA taught the world to read the label. The next label is the room itself.
This is not a pitch. It is an invitation to finish what the Bataller family started in 2008.
No luxury wellness brand on earth has earned the word “natural” more honestly than SHA.
In 2002, Alfredo Bataller Parietti received a discouraging diagnosis. He recovered through integrative medicine and healthy nutrition — and turned his recovery into a method. Since 2008, SHA Wellness Clinic on the Costa Blanca has been the world's most sought-after medical wellness destination: a balanced, natural, alkalizing, plant-based macrobiotic diet; the most effective natural therapies combined with the latest Western medicine; a clientele that includes some of the most discerning names in Europe.
Now, under Alfredo and his son Alejandro — Vice President and Managing Partner — SHA is going global: SHA Mexico in Costa Mujeres, SHA Emirates in Al Jurf, and the AB Living Group's residential portfolio. The mission, in Alejandro's own words, has always been to “help people live longer and better.”
This document is written for that mission. Because the next frontier of “natural” — the one no wellness clinic has yet measured — is the one SHA is uniquely positioned to own.

Are they really natural and toxin-free?
An honest answer, because the question is exactly the one SHA's own guest is now asking.
On nutrition and natural therapies, SHA has done more than any luxury hotel group on earth to earn the word “natural.” The macrobiotic, organic, plant-based diet is genuine. The integrative method is genuine. The founder's recovery is the proof. This is not greenwashing — it is a real method, built by a real family, from a real story.
But “natural” and “toxin-free” are not the same sentence. “Natural” describes intention. “Toxin-free” describes a measured chemical reality — across the pillow, the shower steam, the spa water, the cookware, the cleaning spray, the air a guest breathes all night. None of these are audited today, at SHA or anywhere else. A macrobiotic dish can still carry pesticide residues, BPA from its packaging, PFAS from the pan, heavy metals in the seaweed. A “natural” serum can still contain phenoxyethanol and synthetic fragrance. A serene white room can still off-gas formaldehyde for years.
The guest who scrutinises ingredients in a serum is the same guest who will, within five years, scrutinise the flame retardants in their mattress. SHA — the clinic that taught that guest to read labels — is the one brand with the credibility to answer first. Not by claiming more. By proving it, with a score.
SHA's method already points at toxin-free living. Johansson is the last mile.
“The most effective natural therapies and a fully healthy nutrition” is already half the sentence. The body's most powerful natural therapy is its own detoxification — and that system works only in a clean chemical environment. Johansson's work is the last mile: making the integrative method measurably true across every room, treatment, plate and surface a guest touches.
SHA has the method. The Batallers have the credibility. What has been missing — until now — is the standard that turns “natural” from a promise into proof.
Where the global expansion meets its defining differentiator
Global expansion
SHA Mexico and SHA Emirates, plus AB Living residences — the method going global. Every new opening is a chance to lead with a standard no medical wellness clinic can name, and a reason for the longevity guest to choose SHA first.
The integrative method
SHA's method already points at toxin-free living — 'natural therapies' and 'healthy nutrition' are half the sentence. The leap from 'natural' to a measured chemical environment is the mile Johansson walks, and the one that makes the method whole.
The longevity guest
SHA's clientele already scrutinises ingredients in a serum and reads the label on a supplement. They will be the first to ask the chemical question of where they sleep. The first clinic to answer with a certified score wins their loyalty for a generation.
The trust deficit inside the world's most trusted wellness clinic
Today's SHA guest pays thousands a night for “natural” and “longevity” — and still inhales chlorinated spa by-products, sleeps inches above flame-retardant foam, and absorbs synthetic preservatives through warmed skin in the very treatment room sold as a sanctuary. The gap between the natural story and the chemical reality is real, it is measurable, and it is exactly the gap SHA's own label-reading clientele will notice first.
SHA — the clinic that built its authority on reading the small print — is the one brand with the credibility to close it. Not a challenger. Not a newcomer. The custodian, finishing what it started.
The seven domains, told as a story
Not a risk audit. A vision of what each part of the SHA experience becomes when the chemical noise is gone — and what SHA already does, credited honestly.

Room Toiletries & Cosmetics
SHA's high-tech dermatology works with ‘plant, biomarine and biotechnological extracts.’ The instinct is right. But ‘biotechnological’ and ‘natural’ are not synonyms for ‘free of endocrine disruptors.’ Parabens, PEGs, phenoxyethanol and synthetic fragrance hide inside many ‘natural’ lines. A toxin-free standard scores every formulation against the JOHA database — so the treatment room that sells ‘natural’ finally, measurably, is.

Bedding & Textiles
SHA's sleep programmes are world-leading. But the mattress a guest sleeps on, the sheets, the flame retardants, the formaldehyde, the PVC — none are audited. A toxin-free room gives the sleep protocol a clean chemical environment to actually work in. The night becomes what the programme always promised: restoration, down to the molecule.

Furniture & Furnishings
SHA's architecture is serene, white and natural — among the most photographed wellness buildings in the world. But MDF, synthetic upholstery, conventional paints and PFAS carpets off-gas formaldehyde and organophosphates for years. A toxin-free interior makes the building as clean as the philosophy — measured, not assumed, from the day it opens.

Food & Beverage
This is SHA's strongest domain — and the one that proves the point. The macrobiotic, organic, plant-based diet is genuinely best-in-class. But ‘organic’ doesn't test for the cookware (PFAS non-stick), the packaging (BPA, phthalates), the water it's cooked in, or the heavy metals in the seaweed. Toxin-free dining completes the nutrition method at the molecular level — the last mile SHA's celebrated kitchen has never been scored on.

Cleaning & Laundry
Housekeeping is the most frequent chemical contact a guest has with a wellness clinic — and the least examined. Phthalate-laden detergents, synthetic fragrance and quaternary ammonium disinfectants settle on every surface and linen a guest touches. A toxin-free housekeeping standard makes ‘clean’ part of the wellness promise — not its hidden contradiction.

Water & Air Quality
SHA's spa water and clinic air are the environment every natural therapy depends on. Whole-property water filtration, HEPA and biophilic air purification, non-chlorinated spa water and low-EMF sleep architecture turn ‘natural therapies’ from a treatment into a habitat — the invisible infrastructure that makes the integrative method measurably true.

Ambience & Sensory
The last layer of wellness is sensory — and it is where hidden chemistry often hides in plain scent. Paraffin candles release benzene and toluene; synthetic diffusers introduce unstudied novel chemicals into the air a guest breathes all night. A toxin-free sensory layer uses essential-oil-only scenting with fully disclosed oils, beeswax or soya-wax candles, and circadian-aware lighting — so the atmosphere heals rather than burdens.
SHA's words, and the last mile to make them true
Verbatim brand statements, each paired with what it takes to move from "natural" to certified toxin-free.
“Our approach to health is eminently holistic. We prioritize the best natural therapies and techniques as well as a fully healthy nutrition.”
‘Natural’ is the right instinct. But ‘natural’ and ‘toxin-free’ are not the same sentence. A macrobiotic dish can still carry pesticide residues, BPA from its packaging, PFAS from the pan it was cooked in. Johansson is the standard that makes ‘natural’ measurably true — across the plate, the pillow, the water and the air.
“We transmit the importance of a healthy diet and integrate the most effective natural therapies with the last traditional medicine advances.”
The most effective natural therapy a body has is its own detoxification — and that system works only in a clean chemical environment. No clinic has yet controlled that environment across the full stay. Johansson closes the loop the integrative method always implied.
“Our mission has always been to help people live longer and better.”
Living longer is half the sentence. Living longer with less accumulated burden is the half no programme has measured. The Johansson 7-Star standard scores the chemical load a guest absorbs during a stay — so ‘longer and better’ becomes a number, not a wish.
“Add years to your life, and quality of life to your years.”
Quality of life is a chemical question before it is a clinical one. The single largest controllable input to a guest’s healthspan is the toxin load they absorb through skin, air, water and food. Johansson is the engine that controls it — the layer SHA’s method has always pointed at but never measured.
“Redefining health as a lifelong strategy — global leaders in longevity and scientific wellness.”
A lifelong strategy that ignores the chemical environment is a strategy with a blind spot exactly the size of the body’s largest input. Scientific wellness deserves a scientific standard for what the guest absorbs. Johansson is that standard.

Stars in the Johansson Non-Toxic Award — the category to own first
The first medical wellness clinic to certify to the Johansson 7-Star Non-Toxic standard doesn't just add a feature. It turns “natural” from a claim into a category — and owns it for a decade. Every clinic that follows will be measured against the standard SHA defined.
SHA taught the world to read the label. It can now write the next one.
This is not a departure from the method. It is the method, completed. The same pioneering spirit that turned one man's recovery into the world's most trusted wellness clinic now has the tools to make “natural” measurably, certifiably, biologically true — across every room, every treatment, every plate.
The guests are ready. The science is ready. The standard exists. What remains is the decision to be first — and to finish what the Bataller family started.
